Trans-Canada Journey

After a late-summer trip through the Maritimes, Joyous Vagaries continued on with a Trans-Canada trip from New Brunswick to British Columbia.  This trip included stops at many of Canada’s National Parks, and driving the Icefields Parkway that runs between Jasper and Banff National Park.

Very favorable weather was encountered for most of the journey across Canada. Although it was appreciated to have abundant sunshine throughout the trip, it was evident that rain was very much needed to help put out the few forest fires that were still active in certain parts of the Rockies.  The smoke from these fires made for a very hazy sky around the mountain ranges.

A variety of wildlife was seen throughout the journey across Canada:  a number of Elk and Bison, one Badger, one Coyote, numerous Black-Billed Magpies, a few Deer, some Black Squirrels, countless Prairie Dogs, and one lone Monarch Butterfly.

As expected, the terrain was quite varied throughout the trip.  Driving through the Great Plains felt as if the Plains would never end, with the land as flat as the eye could see in any direction.  The Plains stretch from Manitoba, through Saskatchewan, and into Alberta before reaching the Canadian Rockies.  The Rockies were highly impressive, all the way from the Icefields Parkway to western British Columbia.

The Trans-Canada trip was completed at Canada’s longest pier, in White Rock, BC, where we stood at the water’s edge of the Pacific Ocean.  Our journey back to New England brought us to two more National Parks – Waterton and Grasslands – making the total number of 23 Canadian National Parks visited in 2025.

Be sure to visit the Gallery for each Province of Canada. More images for each Province will be uploaded in the coming weeks There are a lot of them!
