A Ride On The DEST

It was a perfect day for a ride on the Down East Sunrise Trail (DEST) – a very sunny and dry day, with a refreshing breeze, and temps in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. In all, 20 miles were covered between Whitneyville and East Machias, ME.

The best part of the ride crosses over and parallels the East Machias River. Along the river, there were a considerable number of sightings: Eagles, Ospreys, Geese, Turkeys, Hawks, a Sandhill Crane, Cormorants, Seagulls, as well as a number of schools of unknown fish being sought after by Seals.

Head over to the Joyous Vagaries YouTube Channel to see the video of a seal hunting fish. To see images taken during today’s ride, as well as images taken from previous rides, be sure to visit the Down East Sunrise Trail Gallery.
