This is a 13.5-mile section of the NOBO LASH, which spans between Deckertown Turnpike/NJ 650 and Unionville Rd. The hike started with temps in the mid-30’s, sunny skies, and a moderate breeze.
This section of trail has two shelters: Rutherford Shelter and High Point Shelter. The shelters at both sites were in good shape. Each had a moldering privy and a bear box. The bear box at Rutherford had food left inside for others to eat, and one can of Coors Light.
Not much for wildlife was seen on this section of trail – 1 deer and 1 porcupine, along with a plethora of grey squirrels and chipmunks. Although not seen, a Louisiana Waterthrush was heard, which was a real treat! There were a few views from the ridge, and a great view from the Observation Deck in High Point State Park.
