This 12.1-mile section of the NOBO LASH spans between NY 301 and NY 52. It was completed over the course of a couple of days. The weather was fair on both days, and temps were moderate.
Highlights of this section of trail include a view of Canopus Lake, Shenandoah Mountain, RPH Shelter (formerly, Ralph’s Peak Hiker Cabin), a nice view off Hosner Mountain, and some interesting wildflowers.
There is a feeling of accomplishment when one can be on a mountain one day, and see that mountain from another on the second day, was the case with seeing Shenandoah Mountain from a ridge view on Hosner Mountain.
One section hiker (aka, SlowDog) was met along the way on day 1 of this hike, not far from RPH Shelter. He was heading to Cornwall Bridge, CT, but another hiker (met on day 2) indicated that “SlowDog” wasn’t feeling well and ended up calling his daughter to pick him up at RPH Shelter. Here’s hoping “SlowDog” is doing better!
Overall, the hike was quite pleasant. There was no rough terrain this time around (no significant rock scrambles or steep ascents/descents).
