Upon leaving St. John’s, we stopped at Harbour Grace to visit the bronze statue of Amelia Earhart that we had missed the last time we were in Newfoundland. The Spirit of Harbour Grace Park was a treat to visit. We were delighted to find the statue of Amelia Earhart in good condition. We then moved on to the Bonavista Peninsula where we visited the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse, Dungeon Provincial Park, the Root Cellars and the Puffin Colony in Elliston. Our base camp was at Elliston Municipal Park.
Though we truly enjoyed a visit to the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and Dungeon Provincial Park, the highlight of this stop for us was the Puffin Colony in Elliston, and the lovely people we met there. Thumbs up to the kid with the mad camera skills and his very supportive Mom. We had a great time chatting with Daniel from Montreal, who was patient with our lack of French. The campground was made much more pleasant by our encounter with an exuberant Scottie named Tig. We thank the Mom’s for allowing us some playtime with Tig, who boosted our spirits greatly. It’s always an added joy to meet such kind and joyful spirits.
