After a restful night’s sleep at Shallow Bay Campground, our next stop was to be in Port au Choix, where we wanted to [re]visit the French Rooms Bread Oven. Before arriving there, we decided to make a short stop at Arches Provincial Parkto see the fascinating rock formations at the edge of the ocean. It’s amazing to see these grand arches that were formed by thousands of years of crashing ocean waves.
Moving on, we arrived at the French Bread Oven to have some cocoa, warm bread, and partridgeberry jam – our favorite! They make it better than anyone. We were there too early for the bread baking event, which happens at 2:00, but it gave us the opportunity to spend some time with the ladies we met last year, and to meet some of the new young ladies working there this year. They are smart, hardworking young ladies who know nothing about geography, but we won’t hold that against them (“Maine, what state is that in?”). All kidding aside, this is truly one of our favorite stops, not only in Newfoundland, but in all of Canada. Thank you very much for a lovely afternoon. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see our favorite story teller/musician, Dave, as it was his day off. We wish him and his wife all the best, and hope to see them in the future.
After we finished our lovely visit at the French Bread Oven, we stopped by the French Rooms Cultural Center, where we met and chatted with Peggy, who helped us pick out just the right sticker for UdaVAN. Leaving the center, we continued on to Point Riche Lighthouse, where we were fortunate enough to have seen a herd of Caribou, some with calves. Low and behold, we ran into our Bangor neighbors who we met the day we did the Fjords! Safe travels to them.

Our day ended with a sunset at the lighthouse before settling in to our RV site at Sea Echo Motel in Port au Choix. We were rocked to sleep all night with what could almost be described as Wreckhouse winds.
