The first day, April 22, started with a plan to hike around Moosehorn NWR, Baring Division, but rain threatened, so a decision was made to go over to Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec, Maine.  Although it was cloudy, and rain seemed to threaten, a short walk was taken along a bit of trail near the light house, then a loop walk on the Coast Guard Trail.  The rain held during this walk.  Temps were in the 40’s.  All in all, it was pleasant to be outdoors despite the overcast.

From Quoddy Head, the next adventure for the day was at Black Duck Cove, which is in the Cobscook Shores Trail system.  This was an enchanting walk through the woods, with lush moss and an abundance of cedar trees.  The trail to Black Duck Cove is 2.5 miles.  Not wanting to risk getting caught in the rain, the hike only went as far as Smelt Brook Bridge (.5 mi).  Upon completing the return trip to the car, the sky opened up.  Wow, that was lucky!  It was decided to come back the next day to do the whole 2.5 miles. Having done that, the entire hike was nothing short of “vagalicious”!!  This is one of the most beautiful woods walk taken to date, and will likely be done again in the Fall.  It was abundantly clear that those who are doing trail maintenance, know what they’re doing.

On Sunday, April 24, we went to Moosehorn NWR, Baring Division with the intent of hiking one of the trails that was missed last year.  The hike started by way of Mullen Meadow, but was stopped by an outflow that was too wide to cross.  It was decided to turn back, and walk the Two Mile Meadow Road (loop).  Stopped to sit a short while at Otter Flowage and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.

After returning to the car, it was decided to walk the Mile Bridge Road from Charlotte Road.

All in all, these last 3 days of hiking were most pleasant.
