Another Bike Ride at Moosehorn NWR & then some…

May 7, 2022: Today’s joyous vagary involved a bike ride on the M-140 bikes at Moosehorn NWR, Edmunds Division, but this time with a new, more comfortable bike saddle, with the hope that the gates ar Moosehorn were open for the season.  Upon arrival, the gates were, in fact, open!  Bikes unloaded, the adventure to ride the trails began!

From North Trail was another Trail called Weir Road, and is always gated – a great thing for bikes, as there is no traffic to contend with! Weir Road runs from North Trail, back to a closed gate at Route 1. In a short period of time, Weir Road abruptly ended at an expanse of field. Walking into the field a bit, a stream is seen cutting through, deep and wide enough to prevent one from continuing the bike ride.  Instead of navigating the stream, it was decided to turn around.

Overall, it was a nice day for a ride – sunny, breezy, temps in the low 50’s.  Of note, there were some old large moose tracks along Weir Road. Last, but not least to note, the Black Flies are starting to emerge!

After the ride at Moosehorn, a trip to Reversing Falls was worth a stop before heading home.  The dusty road leading to the Falls did quite a number on the bikes, which required a good wipe down after the day’s adventure!

To cap off the day, a trip to catch a sunset from Shackford Head State Park was well worth it. A very nice end to the day!
