South Trail Ride at MNWR

Today’s joyous vagary was a long bike ride from South Trail (off Rt. 191) in the Baring Division of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge. The weather was perfect – sunny, a light breeze, and temps in the upper 70’s – low 80’s. The black flies were nowhere to be ‘experienced’, but the deer and horse flies were plentiful!

The ride involved South Trail, South Ridge Road, Beaver Trail, Youngs Road, and a short bit of Mile Bridge Road. These roads are all gravel forest service-type roads, and not open to traffic. One of the fat tire bikes was acting up – peddle assist mode cutting in and out on the inclines – that was NOT fun! Also not fun – deer flies, horse flies, and not being able to reach Mack Brook!
