Continuing our NOBO LASH, this 12.5-mile section of trail spans between Pen-Mar and State Route 233 in So. Mountain, PA. Day 8, was a ‘zero’ day (no miles hiked) as it was raining for most of the day, and we had to get to our next multi-day base camp at Ironmasters Mansion Hostel.
Today’s hike started with temps in the low 30’s, clear blue skies, and very little wind. By the end of the hike, the temps had risen into the low to mid 50’s, making it a perfect day for hiking. Yesterday’s rain helped to raise the water level on the East Branch of Antietam Creek, which was flowing nicely.
Two more shelter sites were visited today: Deer Lick Shelters and Tumbling Run Shelters. Each site had two shelters. Amusingly, the two shelters at Tumbling Run were named “Snoring” and “Non-Snoring”. It was clear that this site was designed well, with clear signage for locating the Spring, and another sign “pointing the way” for Hammocks. Both sites have been left clean.
Be sure to visit the Pennsylvania Gallery!
Good Job! Keep hiking.
