This 16.3-mile trail section of our NOBO LASH spans between Whiskey Spring Road and the Scott Farm AT Work Center on Conodoguinet Creek. The morning temps are improving, with this one being in the mid 40’s. It was overcast, with a light breeze.
Side note: Conodoguinet Creek is a 104-mile-long tributary of the Susquehanna River in South Central PA. The name is Native American, and means “A Long Way with Many Bends”.
The hike required a somewhat rocky climb at the start. The next part of the hike involved walking through pastures, people’s back yards, and a slew of highway and interstate crossing.
Only 2 hikers were encountered; one was traveling SOBO, and the other one was traveling NOBO. There was one out/back day hiker encountered at the start of the hike. As for wildlife, one Great Blue Heron and a couple of mallards were spotted on Yellow Breeches Creek.
One shelter exists on this section of trail – Alec Kennedy. Another interesting experience: There were quite a few items left in this shelter: Frogg Toggs, 3 sweatshirts, a sport bra, ‘dude wipes’, and a tarp. It looked like a Dollar Store in there!
At the top of Center Point Knob, pines have grown tall enough to significantly reduce what was likely a great view once upon a time.
A long trek for me, but overall, an enjoyable hike.
