Joyous Vagaries’ next Airbnb stop was a 2 night stay in Cape St. George on the Port aux Port Peninsula, at the Four Sisters Lodge, which is part of the Mi’kmaw Friendship Centre. On the way to our destination, we stopped at Cape Anguille Lighthouse, located within the Codroy Valley. The landscape in the valley is vastly different from the Southwest coast of Newfoundland – very lush with rolling hills.
Our first night in Cape St. George, we took in a beautiful sunset atop the cliffs at Boutte du Cap Park. The next day involved driving around the peninsula, also known as the French Loop.
Along the loop drive, we returned to the Park to take a bit of a walk along the cliffs to enjoy the cliff views, and watch the Kittiwake colony. It is so beautiful there, one could easily spend hours soaking in the beauty of this park!
Continuing on, we stopped to visit Tea By The Sea, located in Mainland, NL. Unfortunately, it wasn’t open yet, but there were a couple of local ladies inside getting the place ready for opening next week, and we were graciously invited in to look around. This place is a definite “must do”!
After a brief chat with the ladies, we continued on down the road, and stopped for a bite at Oliver’s Restaurant, in Piccadilly, NL. What a joy it was to have fried cod nuggets for our meal, which came with homemade french fries – simply put, the meal was delicious!!
Our next stop was to drive out to Blue Beach, which sits on a narrow peninsula. During the drive out, we saw two moose – sorry, no photo as they moved too quickly to get a good shot.
On our way back to Cape St. George, we stopped in Sheaves Cove to hike a trail to Hidden Falls. We could see from the parking lot, that there no falls to be seen, so they must have been well hidden! There was a coastal trail in the immediate area, so we decided to explore a little. We were not disappointed!
Below are some photos of what we saw. We’ll be adding more photos to the Newfoundland Gallery.
