The next segment of Joyous Vagaries’ Newfoundland Trip includes a one-night stopover in Hampden, NL, and a two night stay 30 minutes outside of Twillingate, in Cottlesville, NL. The weather was perfect on the drive from St. Lunaire-Griquet to Hampden. The Long Range Mountains were absolutely gorgeous, which we didn’t get to see when traveling up to St. Lunaire due to heavy rain and dense fog.
Upon arrival to our stop in Hampden, we stayed at Samson’s Retreat Airbnb, hosted by Debbie Samson. She is an author, Psychedelic Cannabis Therapist, and an all-around good spirit. It was our great joy to meet and chat with her. Her Airbnb was peaceful and comforting. We had our best night’s sleep in days at Samson’s Retreat Airbnb. Thank you, Debbie, for the hospitality! We shall return for a longer visit next time. For those who are fortunate enough to stay at her retreat, check out her sea glass art. It’s really good!
“My Body Remembered” and “A Recipe for C-PTSD and PNES” are two of her books that can be found on Amazon.
After leaving Hampden early the next morning, we drove for nearly four hours to our next Airbnb in Cottlesville. Having arrived too early to check-in, we drove on to Twillingate to scout out any possible icebergs. We were able to book a tour with Iceberg Quest Ocean Tours. A very pleasant iceberg sighting was the prize before the end of the tour.
We were checked in for the tour by Malcolm, who was also one of the crew on the tour boat. Allana and Cody were shucking lobsters inside the building where we checked in for the tour. They both were hard working, were attentive to customers, and were jolly good fun to talk with.
Malcolm provided some useful information about North Twillingate Island, explained what a tickle is, as well as about icebergs. A boat the size of the one used for the tour is too large to navigate through a tickle, so we had to go the long way around the island to see any icebergs.
Below are some images and videos from this segment of our trip.
