As we move northward, this 8.4-mile section of trail, in Maryland, spans between Crampton Gap and Harpers Ferry. The hike started at 7:24 AM, and ended shortly before 1:00 PM. Temps were on the cool side again, starting in the upper 30’s, along with another wind chill factor. It stayed rather breezy throughout the duration of the hike, and the temps didn’t get much above the upper 40’s by the end of the day.
The highlight of today’s hike was the spectacular view of the Potomac from the top of Weverton Cliffs. These types of views are best enjoyed when there are no other people around, which was the case today. Not five minutes after leaving the cliffs, a large group of young college-age women came rambling up the trail – heading to the cliffs!
One solitary hiker was seen at the Edward B. Garvey Shelter mid-morning, who seemed to be enjoying his time alone in the shelter. As for wildlife sightings, one Pileated Woodpecker and one grey squirrel. Seems all the squirrels prefer to live in W. Virginia!
